May 2006 Imagine Girl Scouts as the “go to” organization that EVERYONE in EVERY community thinks of when discussing issues affecting girls and young women! Imagine Girl Scouts as the primary positive influence, outside of the family, for girls of all ages, races, ethnicities and abilities! As we transform our organization from Good to Great, possibilities become realities. As we merge with neighboring councils, we will truly deliver on our promise: To build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Earlier this year, discussions began with Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County, Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay and Girl Scouts of Tres Condados on how to join together to create a “high capacity” organization. Our three councils coming together was the recommendation of national demographers using criteria established by councils on components that defined “high capacity”. Those discussions continue and will expand over the next several months to include board members, volunteers, staff, and community leaders. In August, Girl Scouts of the USA will take action to officially approve a NEW council that encompasses the Central California Coast, from Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties in the north to Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties in the south. While we do not yet have an official merge date, we hope to begin the process this fall and expect to conclude it by late 2007 or early 2008. Our new council will truly be one of the most beautiful in the nation! There are still many unknowns:
Rest assured that we are bringing “great minds” together to address these and many other issues. One thing we are certain of: Girls throughout Central California will have more opportunities than ever before! We will communicate with our members via web site, e-mail and snail mail. If you do not have convenient access to the Internet please contact the designated point person listed below. It is also important that you keep this individual apprised of changes in e-mail and physical addresses. Contact Person: Sharon Reece
