Realignment News

Issue 4, September 11, 2006

In late August, the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of the USA voted to establish new council boundaries all across the country. By vote of the National Board of Directors, Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay was to have been re-aligned with Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County and with Girl Scouts, Tres Condados (San Luis Obispo County, Santa Barbara County and the northern portion of Ventura County.) No portion of San Mateo County is included in this configuration.

Since this vote, the Board of Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County has voted not to proceed with the merger at this time. They are awaiting response from GSUSA.

Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay and Tres Condados will continue merger talks between their respective councils. Representatives of the two councils will re-convene on October 11 in San Luis Obispo to continue talks and plans for a merger.

Whatever the final configuration, Girl Scouts of Monterey Bay remains committed to its mission: To build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. We will stay focused on this mission and our dedication to recruit, support and train the world’s best volunteers, build a highly competent Board and Staff, and provide the Girl Scout program for ALL girls who want to join.

109 New Girl Scout Councils

The National Board of Directors at their August meeting approved new jurisdictions that will bring the number of current Girl Scout councils from 310 to 109 by the end of 2009.
