Realignment News

Issue 5, November 27, 2006

On November 16, our Board of Directors voted an historic vote which will begin the process of our merger with Girl Scouts of Tres Condados. Beginning in January, 2007, and continuing throughout the year, our six counties (Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura) will work toward becoming one new council, with the capacity to empower more girls, recruit and train new volunteers and use resources wisely.

On January 20, the Boards of Directors of our two councils will meet in San Luis Obispo to begin visioning what our new council will look like and what our goals will be. Then in February, the staff members of our councils will gather to share best practices and to discover combined strengths.

We have lots of work to do: recruit a new Board of Directors, develop common bylaws and policies, integrate our technology systems, design a new staffing structure to best serve volunteers and girls, and finally, choose a new name and celebrate! We will be providing a monthly Realignment Update on our website and e-mailed along with the Connections so that you can stay informed and know what comes next.

Stay tuned! 2007 will be a year of evolution that will bring the highest quality Girl Scout program to girls all along our Central California Coast.
